Remove apps from iPad

Hint Mind you, advice on iPad below are iPhone / iPod touch applicable.

When it comes to managing installed software either on the newest iPad Air / Retina iPad mini or older gens of iPad i.e iPad 2 / iPad 3 /iPad 4, the first thing that you may realize is that some unwanted application / game does not suit your needs and at the same time clutters the desk. You decided delete this app / game but don't know how to do it. Don't panic, the change can come quickly and easily. iOS gives you full control on permission to delete 3rd parties apps from Apple tablet. It is located in Restriction area of General section in Settings. To allow removal unwanted apps:

    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap General.
    3. Tap Restrictions.
    4. Toggle Deleting Apps to ON.
    5. Return to Home screen by using five-fingers gesture.

Now to delete unwanted app:
    1. Touch icon of the app you want to delete and keep holding until all apps’ icons will start wiggling and displaying little white “x” sign in the small black circle at the top left corner.
    2. Touch the black circle with “x” sign on that app you want to remove.
    3. Confirm delete.
    4. Touch one by one other circles if you want to delete more apps
    5. Press Home button (or, preferably, touch the virtual one) to stop wiggling and end removal process.

That is all. Unwanted app/s (and all its data) will be removed from Apple tablet. Eventually you may face the wiggling icons but with no little “x” at the top. In such scenario (providing there is no restriction to delete apps on iPad) the best solution is to turn Apple tablet OFF. After shut down device and turning it ON, these little things are bound to come back. If not it may be due to the accidental change-over of the Delete Apps switch to OFF position in the Restrictions area of General Settings. So, toggle it back to ON: Settings => General => Restrictions => Deleting Apps (ON).

The above procedure involves the interaction with the physical Home button on iPad. As any mechanical things it may eventually wear out from the frequent use. But relax. Our geeks shared an advice on how to delete apps on ipad not touching this button at all. All you need is to activate virtual Home button on your iconic tablet. To do this:

    1. Tap Settings.
    2. In Settings Submenu tap General.
    3. Scroll down the General submenu to find Accessibility.
    4. Tap Accessibility.
    5. In the Accessibility submenu tap AssistiveTouch.
    6. Set Assistive Touch into ON state. (After turning ON, a transparent icon of round button will appear at the bottom right of the screen. You can dock it onto other places, just play with it).
    7. Return to Home screen by using five-fingers gesture.

Now to remove unwanted app from your iconic tablet do the following:
    1. Tap and hold the icon of app you need to remove from tablet/
    2. Once this icon begins wiggling tap the small cross at the upper left of the icon.
    3. Confirm Delete option in pop-up window that will appear.
    4. Tap that transparent icon of the round button and find as it will unfold into darker square with four icons on it. The icon at the bottom of that square denoted as Home is virtual Home button.
    5. Tap that icon of virtual Home button to stop icons from wiggling.

All of above is true for 3rd parties apps. But Apple tablet comes with native apps such as Calendar, Notes, Safari, you name it. Mind you, there is no power in your hand to delete them, (do you really want to?), but you have control on displaying many of them on the Home screen. (We would recommend hiding at least Ping icon pertaining to Apple’s social network that centred around music community buying via iTunes as Apple will reportedly drop support for this service). To hide / display native iPad apps:

    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap Genera.
    3. Tap Restrictions.
    4. In the Allow area toggle to OFF / ON the apps you want to hide /display.
    5. Return to Home screen by using five-fingers gesture.
