Many game / apps developers offer their games / apps for free but then try to swindle out your money via in-app purchase which is in fact a mechanism for selling some extra features of their games / applications directly from application you have purchased for you new iPad aka iPad 3 or iPad / iPad2.

In-App Purchases can be of three types: consumables, non-consumables and subscriptions.

Consumable purchase can be made several times. For example, you may consume your power over the time of game but then restore this resource via in-game purchase ( otherwise you may need to wait quite a time until complete cure).

Non-Consumable purchase is effected only once. It usually occurs when you need to unlock new features of the game / app.

Subscription is nothing more than subscription to something. Via this mechanism, for example, you may activate your account, say, once year.
